GOAT MEAT (I'm going to refer to is as "chevon" because that's a pretty word.)
They come vacuum-packed, processed by Crawford's.
Ground Goat $4.50/lb in 1lb packages  (6 for sale)
Chops $5.00/lb  (3 packages between 12-16oz)
Soup bones $3.00/lb (5 packages between 8-16 oz)
Ribs $5.00/lb (3 packages around 12 oz)
"Almost completely grass fed.  We had them on hay and a tiny bit of grain. No hormones or medication. I think the last time I even wormed them was when they were weaned last year. It's very lean but Tom thinks the texture of the ground meat has a texture similar to ground pork and is nicely fatty. It has a great flavor, not gamey at all."  The goats were almost exactly one year old, still young and tender.

There are lots of credits and debits this week - you can see them at the bottom of the grid.  Cheese, things owed from last week, things I owe YOU, bottle credits.

Broccoli/Cauliflower mix: The cauliflower was kind of expensive this week, but I'm addicted to this "cruciferous cloud" stuff.  Recipe here.  Like, it tastes like I should feel guilty eating it but it's wholesome as can be.  I used about 2 oz of cream cheese instead of the ricotta.  Also, that blog is great.  Some of you know her already, but she's a great read.

In addition to the broc/cauli mix, there's broccolini again (it's still at the "special" price), and regular broccoli is too good a price to not put on the list as well.  So lots of broc-type stuff.  Cruciferocity!

Cut n clean greens: I kind of thought that Organic Girl stuff would make the cut n clean greens obsolete, but they are very different.  The organic girl greens are tender and good for a quick sautee, but don't hold up to all the same uses that the cut n clean greens do.  For you new-ish folks, cut n clean greens are a mixture of kale, chard, collards, and whatever other cooking greens they have, all chopped and washed and ready to go.  They are bigger greens cut into pieces rather than young "baby" greens.  It stays fresh a pretty long time in the plastic container it comes in.  The picture shows their all-kale package, but this would be kale plus other assorted greens.
Maitake supershrooms

Those maitake mushrooms were awesome.  I ate the whole package in one sitting and wanted more.  So they're back on this week.  They have shiitake, portabella, and crimini as well, y'all just let me know if you want to add one of those varieties one week.

ORGANIC GIRL Super Greens: On the list this week is the family size, 10 oz.  The one that's half that size runs $4.50 or so at Publix, we're getting the big one for $5.  The greens included are:

baby red chard, baby tat soi, baby spinach, baby green swiss chard, baby arugula

There are no lettuces in this mix, which means these can be used as a salad mix OR as quick-cook tender  baby greens.

Now that orange season is over, the orange juice we used to get regularly is back on the list.  It's at Ward's for something like $6, it's $4.15 for us.  The same size lemonade is available from Uncle Matt's, so I threw that on there, too.

Coleman whole organic chickens: These are between 3.5 and 5 pounds.  They'll be $3.50 per pound, so somewhere between $12.25 and $17.50 each, depending on weight.  A preorder, so they'll be in NEXT week.

And it's time to preorder heavy cream.  This will be on every 3 weeks or so, since that seems to be the shelf life.

ORDER HERE.  Before noon Saturday.

  1. Hm, I would like to make mushroom burgers - would the portabellas Albert offers be a good size?
